Transition to Retirement Planning

Retirement's a few years away? Or are you starting to transition to retirement?

As a financial planner who specialises in retirement planning and transition to retirement planning, this is where I can help you "start".

Robert Daniele advising a retired couple.

Sometimes not knowing where to start is actually a start. You are thinking about it which is good, this is step 1.

  • Maybe you’ve just turned 60 and retirement doesn’t look too far away.
  • You want to start planning to give yourself the best possible outcome when retirement arrives.
  • You know you need to be doing something, but don’t know where to start.

As a financial planner who specialises in retirement planning and transition to retirement planning, this is where I can help you “start”.

There might be a few “what if” scenarios that we can refine as time goes on until you are ready reduce work hours, fully stop work or just change jobs/careers for your next part of your life. I will work with you to determine if you actually have saved “enough” to live a comfortable retirement but first we need to work out what a comfortable retirement looks like to “YOU” and then we can work out what “enough” is.

Even though all my clients I work with are usually in there late 50’s or 60’s - everyone’s situation is different and what they consider to be “enough” is always different - my advice will help you reach your individual target.

I will start by helping you plan:

  • A way to start reducing your debt if you have any outstanding and building wealth in a tax effective manner.
  • Maybe it might be reducing a day or two work to “test” the waters but you still would like to keep the income you get the same.
  • Or it could be you would like to do some home renovations / purchasing a car for retirement to help set things up so when you do retire you are already setup. I help to map out all of your objectives then start to cross them off one by one to make sure you are still building wealth, doing the things you want to do and knowing where you will end up and “when” you can retire that is individual to you and your needs.

What Makes Robert Different

These are the reasons to choose Robert's Retirement Advisory.

  • Transparent
Preparing for retirement can take a number of years, I will work with you to make sure that you understand every step that we have planned together and answer any questions you may have.
  • Personal touch
Every client I meet is different, so every plan I present is different. What isn't different is the tax system, superannuation system and Centrelink rules but you leave that and the number crunching to me and I will prepare your individualised plan.
  • Not all numbers
Although the numbers are what they are and is the part I will work out, if you let me know "Robert - I really want to do this holiday or make this purchase" for example - then that is for you to decide; not everything is about the money.

  • Initial consultation Me sitting down with you, to get to know your goals, your plans including what are your short term goals (what we can start planning to achieve now). Then what your long term goals are (what we can work towards achieving).
  • Statement of Advice Presentation (i.e. the financial road map) This is when I present the plan to you - I would have done the research, crunched the numbers, weighed up the alternatives and come up with the plan that can help you start to transition to retirement to make sure retirement is comfortable and what you want.
  • Review (i.e. checking in to make sure things are going to plan) We may have setup a plan to retire in 5 years but something has changed a long the way and it might need to be sooner, being part of my review service allows you to bounce ideas off of me or catch-up for an ad-hoc session where we can go through another "what-if" that differs from our original plan.

Founder and Operator

What gives me satisfaction from work and being a small business owner is having the extra time to be able to work with clients through one of life's biggest transitions. Whether it is a planned retirement, or unplanned due to health/redundancy or any other reason it doesn't make it any easier for the person going through it. I try my best to take away the financial stress and make sense of our complex retirement system.

Working through "what if's"

You may have many questions about possible scenarios

These are scenario’s that you may have thought about before or idea’s that I may come up with due to my experience - I have seen what is and isn’t achievable. You might have a date in mind like “I need to work to Age Pension age of 67”.

I can come up with a “what if” scenario of retiring at say age 63, working out how you will meet your living expenses and then showing you what it looks like long term. Or it might be - “what if” we retire now, only do overseas travel for 10 years - then buy a caravan to go around Australia. I can show you what the opportunity cost will be of retiring sooner than later and if you can achieve your goals or what you need to do so that you can achieve your goals.

FAQ

Please also refer to the FAQ on the home page for more general questions.

  • I have heard I need to reduce my working hours to access a transition to retirement income stream?
These questions and more I hear all the time. I can help bust some “myths” that float around. Usually with normal accumulation superannuation accounts these days’ - there isn’t a requirement to reduce working hours but can be a good strategy.
  • I don't want to stick to a strict budget and still want to spend more than I save - can you still work with me?
My job isn’t how to tell you to spend your money, it is to show you how your situation looks if you choose to spend, or save your money - the rest is for you to decide - that way you can make educated decisions.
  • I feel like I don't have the money to pay for your advice just yet.
Depending on your situation and what super fund you are with, sometimes you can elect your superannuation fund to pay for my services. I am registered as a financial adviser with a lot of industry and retail funds that allow my clients to pay for my services through their superannuation fund.
  • Do you offer free quotes? What are your fees?
Yes we do offer free quotes. For more information on fees, please refer to the “What are your fees?” answer in the home page FAQ.
